First weekend of the year that it's 60 degrees and sunny.......golfers are out in force. Being Western Michigan University is close by, this is one of the better conditioned, lower priced ($25 18hole w/cart) Link designed tracks you can play and still be challenged. The new score card has four (4) tee selections, Blue 3,282/3,063yds / 70.5 / 129 Par 36/35 down to Red 2,715/2,482yds / 70 / 123 so everyone can enjoy their level of play. (We chose Blues) Played here about 22 years ago when my boys attended WMU and didn't remember all the fairway/green-side sand traps that I found today. The Front 9 starts out with #1 429yd Par 4 dogleg left with a sand trap protecting the corner, 250yd to clear, I didn't. The #2 201yd Par 3, into the SW wind is well protected by three (3) traps, so keep that sand wedge handy. The rest of the holes play fairly open, just look for the scattered trees/bunkers and decided what side to favor on that tee shot. The #9 514yd Par 5 have sand traps spaced equally for your landing areas and SW wind is a helper for those extra carries needed. The Back 9 starts out with #10 Hcp 4 an 373yd Par 4 into the wind with more trees and rolling fairways are the signs of things to come. Rest of the holes throw in more un-even lies, more trees, uphill approach shots, hidden green-side sand traps doing their job. Great finishing #18 536yd Par 5 hole with the SW wind at your donkey, if you stay in the middle. Conditions today were as very good for April, with greens soft and rolling smooth/true for the pack house they had today. Our foursome finished 3.5hrs later there were two (2) groups on every hole, with groups lined up, ready to start. Ended up shooting 40/38 w/33putts on this first day being 60+ degrees and an Great start of golf season in Michigan.
Would travel: 20-30 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing, Ranks with the best in this price level
Condition of Course, Price, Layout, No Houses on Course
